cas is the only character in the history of the show that never gets blamed or held accountable for the dumb ass shit he does

Whoa there. Whoa there. I can’t believe you’re really trying to start this fight. 

Do you really, truly, honestly want to get into this. Are we really gonna talk about how Sam and Dean treat Cas versus how Cas treats Sam and Dean. Like. 

Even if we pretend that Dean didn’t spend a whole scene telling Cas how great he was literally in this episode. Even if we pretend that he didn’t call Cas his brother- pretty much the biggest deal there is, coming from Dean- and tell him explicitly how important he is. Even if we pretend that Dean hasn’t been going out of his way to worry about Cas at every opportunity this season, to the point where it even put him at odds with his brother. Even if we pretend that they weren’t blatantly coddling him at the start of the season and making sure he had plenty of time to recuperate (as they often do).

Let’s pretend that everything he did in season four doesn’t count. I mean, he was never really made responsible for a lot of the shit he did as a soldier of heaven, but there was some questionable consent on his part, so I can let it slide. And, hey, at the very least, he was held responsible- both by Sam and Dean- for letting Alastair nearly beat Dean to death in 4.16, which is something.

But let’s move past that.

In season five, Cas literally beat the shit out of Dean- a human being physically beaten to the point of unconsciousness by an angel of the Lord- because Dean was hopeless and suicidal and trying to do what he thought was best to stop the apocalypse. All the while putting the blame for his own decision to turn away from heaven on Dean. But, y’know, no big deal that it’s literally never addressed. No one blames Cas for it. Dean certainly doesn’t call him on it. Even Sam and Bobby aren’t all that concerned when Dean shows up beaten to a bloody pulp when Cas was supposed to just, y’know, bring Dean back home.

Or, hey, maybe we could talk about Cas spending the entirety of season six going behind the boys’ backs, constantly lying to and manipulating them, and generally making a whole shitload of poor decisions that ultimately end up hurting all of them and releasing the Leviathans? Acting like it was Dean’s responsibility for not “being there when he needed to hear it” when he was the one sneaking around and avoiding them? How about the way he intentionally breaks Sam’s wall, knowing well and good how bad it’ll fuck him up, just to slow them down? But they forgave him for that, no problem. It certainly isn’t brought up several seasons later just for shits and giggles.

And, of course, this season. This season where Cas decided to throw their plan for the Cage to the wind, undo everything that Sam sacrificed and struggled and was tortured for decades for in season five, and free Lucifer. Nearly got Sam killed again for his troubles (and got him extra double-traumatized with some soul-touching action!). Not once was he blamed for it. Chuck felt the need to bring up Sam letting Lucifer out of the Cage years before, but not one person said shit about Cas letting him walk out of there now. Hell; there was an entire scene in this episode devoted to Dean tripping over himself to say that it was okay that he’d done it. 

Sam and Dean constantly forgive Cas for fucking up. Hell; they forgive him more frequently and quickly than they forgive each other. If they held him accountable for half the shit he’s done over the years, you can sure as shit bet he wouldn’t be living with them. No, instead, they’re cleaning up his messes and doing everything they can to make sure he heals up properly and gets lots of time to lay around watching Netflix while they deal with the problems he’s caused. Hell, anytime they dare hold him responsible for something he’s done, they’re suddenly just being “mean.” Case in point: your tags.

If you’re too short-sighted and bitter to see that, cool. Fine. Whatever. No reason to whine about it on a post where you don’t even bother trying to back up your own shit.
